Singapore for Artwork at the Ritz-Carlton

As it may seem strange to you, it definitely seemed strange to me when I asked “Where is a good place to check out local artwork?” and the reply was “Go to the Ritz-Carlton”. But after I arrived, I realized that the Ritz-Carlton is no ordinary hotel. There is a massive three ton Frank Stella installation at the entrance and a pair of Dale Chihuly crystal glass sculpture anchor both wings of the building. The RItz-Carlton has one of the finest and under the radar collections of modern and contemporary art. Most of these pieces were specially commissioned for the public spaces. Being able to walk through and see this specialized commissioned work by some of these artists is a real treat. I walked deeper into their showings and there is everything from Andy Warhol and Hockney to Gross and Moore. Its free to browse like I did and you can even get an iPod guided tour.
